elin o'Hara slavick was born in 1965 in New York and grew up in Portland, Maine. The youngest of seven children, she was raised in a radical Catholic activist environment. She studied at Sarah Lawrence College and The School of the Art Institute of Chicago, where she received her MFA in Photography in 1992. She is an artist and Professor of Studio Art, Theory, and Practice at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She has exhibited her work across the Unite States and in Canada, Europe, Cuba, Hong Kong, England, and Scotland. She lives in Chapel Hill with her husband and their two children.
